Mannington, five generations of one family
Mannington Mills was founded in Salem, New Jersey, in 1915. John Boston Campbell, who had learned the floor-covering trade in Scotland, bought an existing oilcloth facility and started making linoleum rugs. His goal was practical: build a business with his sons and keep the family close. The company survived a fire in 1924, rebuilt nearby, and took its name from the surrounding township.
More than a century later, John's great-great-grandson Zack Zehner serves as Chairman of the Board. Only a small share of family businesses make it past the third generation. Mannington is in its fifth. The company employs more than 3,500 people and makes residential and commercial flooring across many categories: luxury vinyl plank and tile under the ADURA brand, laminate, sheet vinyl, engineered hardwood, carpet, and rubber.
Mannington's ADURA line spans glue-down, floating, and rigid-core constructions, and the Restoration laminate collection carries a 25-year residential warranty. Hardwood collections carry warranties up to 50 years depending on the line. The company has never been publicly traded, which means decisions get made for quality and longevity rather than quarterly earnings.
