  • How long from template to install?

    Most countertops are installed seven to fourteen days after templating, depending on material and slab availability.

  • Can I pick the exact slab?

    Yes. For granite and select quartz lines, we'll send you to the slab yard with our designer so you choose the piece. No surprises at install.

  • Quartz vs. granite: which should I pick?

    Quartz is engineered, very uniform, low maintenance, and stain-resistant. Granite is natural stone: every slab is unique, more character, slightly more upkeep. Both last decades. We'll help you decide.

  • Do you remove the old countertop?

    Yes. Removal and disposal are part of the install. We coordinate plumbing disconnect and reconnect if needed.

  • How much do countertops cost?

    Installed countertops typically run between $40 and $100 per square foot, with laminate at the low end and premium quartz, granite, and Cambria at the top. We measure and template for free and give a written quote so you know the exact price for your slab before fabrication.

  • Who templates and installs the countertops?

    Installers we train and certify handle the template after your cabinets are set, then install in a single day in most kitchens. Every job is backed by an industry-best residential labor warranty.

The schedule, honestly

Your countertop clock does not start where you think it does.

On a countertop-only job we quote one stretch: two to four weeks from the day you pick your slab to the day the install is finished. Fabrication is one to two weeks of that, template taken to slab ready.

On a kitchen that is also getting new cabinets, that stretch does not stack on top of the cabinet wait. It hides inside it. Nobody can template a countertop until the cabinets are permanently set and level, because the top is cut to your cabinets, not to your walls. Count both windows and you plan around weeks you never spend.

Pick the slab early anyway. Its clock can run alongside the cabinet clock. A slab picked in week two costs you nothing and keeps the shop from ever waiting on a decision. A slab picked the week the cabinets land costs you time you never had to spend.

Then the floor goes in after the countertops, on purpose. Countertop day means heavy stone coming in and old stone going out. Dollies, straps, and a lot of weight. We will not run that across a floor you paid for last week.

Against the cabinets it is a different question, and the floor you pick answers it. A floating floor goes in once the cabinets are set and stops at the toe-kick. A glued or nailed floor can run wall to wall before they land.

Countertops by material

Start with the material.

Quartz, granite, laminate, marble: each surface behaves differently in a Florida kitchen. Here's a straight guide to how they wear, what they cost, and which fits the way you actually cook.

Countertops only

New countertops do not require new cabinets.

Plenty of Polk County kitchens get the tops replaced and nothing else. The cabinetry is still solid. The laminate or the old stone is what wore out.

We template over the cabinets you already have and match the overhang and the sink cutout. On install day the old top comes out, the new pieces get dry-fit and seamed, and the sink gets mounted. Once the slab is fabricated, the turnover usually finishes inside a single day.

One thing does not finish that day. The adhesive and the silicone around the sink have to cure, so the plumber reconnects the water after that, often the next day. Plan on one evening without the kitchen sink.

There is no square-footage minimum on local work. A single bath vanity gets the same treatment as a kitchen. Template on site, cut at the shop, install in one visit.

Before you pick a slab

One showroom, one schedule, one phone number. Since January 1, 2017.

Vernon and Louise Blackburn opened the doors on May 1, 1962. Flooring came in on August 29, 1973. The cabinet and countertop division launched on January 1, 2017, and that is the day the three trades started landing on one schedule instead of getting negotiated between three companies.

It shows up in the room. Door samples, display kitchens, and the countertop samples all sit in the same 8,000 square feet on Havendale Boulevard. You can hold a door, a slab sample, and a floor against each other in one trip.

We carry Cambria, Wilsonart, Pompeii Quartz and Quantum Quartz, and the samples are in the showroom to compare side by side. Call ahead and we will have your top candidates pulled before you arrive. Weekdays 9 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 9 AM to noon.

The same number answers after install day. The residential labor warranty on the work in your home is ours to honor. No call centers, no claims process. You call the same family-owned number that quoted the job, and a real person answers.
