The part of the job you never see.
A floor is only as good as what it sits on. On a replacement job, day one is a tear-out, not a delivery. The old carpet comes up and the pad goes with it, every time. The tack strip gets tested rather than assumed. Anything loose, rusted or split comes out and gets replaced the same day, and on a floor that has been down for decades that is usually most of it. Installers we train and certify do the tear-out and the prep as part of the job.
Then we read the subfloor. Low spots in the concrete get filled with a self-leveling compound. High spots get ground down. On a wood subfloor we re-set loose screws, replace soft panels, and sand the seam humps flat. Prep is its own line on your quote, so nothing hides. If your slab needs leveling, you see it, and we tell you why.
With the old floor out and the new one still on the truck, the bare subfloor gets F.I.D.O. It stands for Fights Indoor Dog Odors. The spray neutralizes bacteria and breaks down the organic sources old smells come from, and it goes down before the new floor closes the subfloor in. It is included at no charge with every flooring install we do. No request needed.

How long does an installation take?
Most flooring jobs run one to three days, depending on square footage and material. We give you a firm timeline before we start.
Do you handle commercial jobs?

How much does flooring installation cost in Polk County?
Most flooring projects in Polk County run between $4 and $12 per square foot installed, depending on the material. Carpet and laminate sit at the lower end; hardwood and premium luxury vinyl plank at the higher end. We give a free in-home measure and a written quote so you see the real number for your home before you decide.

Do you test the slab before you install?
Yes, on every slab job, and most Polk County homes sit on a slab. Concrete holds moisture for years after it is poured. So we run a relative humidity probe down in the slab, the ASTM F2170 test, and it gets its full 24-hour read before install day. It is part of the job, not a separate errand. If the reading comes back high, we stop. You get three choices: seal the slab now, wait for it to dry while we tell you how long, or pick a material that tolerates the number. Nothing else gets done or charged until you say go. A documented test is also what protects your floor's manufacturer warranty, which does not cover a failure on a slab nobody tested. Polk County slabs swing with the season, so if your test is more than 90 days old on install day, we run it again. If your builder already tested and the result is less than 90 days old, bring it. We will often use it.

One local fact narrows the list fast. Most Polk County homes sit on a concrete slab, and a slab pulls in moisture and swings with the season. Solid hardwood is the one that cannot go down directly on a slab, because it needs a plywood subfloor to nail into. Laminate can, in a dry room, over a vapor barrier and a slab we have metered, but its core swells where water sits, so we keep it out of kitchens, baths and laundries. Waterproof luxury vinyl plank and porcelain tile take the wet rooms. Engineered hardwood takes the dry rooms and the kitchen, and it is how you get real wood on a slab. Wood is also the one that has to move in before it goes down: we acclimate it inside your home first, so it settles into your humidity. The click-together floors skip that wait. They float over a level subfloor with no nails and no glue. We still read the slab under them.
