The story, year by year
1962
Vernon and Louise open the doors.
On May 1, 1962, Vernon and Louise Blackburn open Blackburn's as a window-treatment company in a plaza on 2nd Street SW, Winter Haven. The first generation of a family business.
1973
Flooring is added.
August 29, 1973: a full flooring line goes into the store. Carpet, hardwood, and tile join the window treatments. The shop becomes a one-stop interiors operation.
1978
The second generation takes the reins.
Wally Blackburn and his wife Diane purchase the business from Vernon and Louise. Wally has been at the helm ever since.
1980
First expansion.
March 15, 1980: the showroom grows, the workroom doubles, and the crew expands to match a bigger book of work.
2004
Move to 1st Street South.
January 15, 2004: Blackburn's relocates to 1st Street South in Winter Haven to handle a still-growing residential and commercial book.
2012
Commercial flooring division launches.
Jarrod Blackburn, third generation, launches the dedicated commercial flooring division: schools, churches, healthcare, offices across Polk County.
2013
The Forever Home.
May 15, 2013: the company moves into its 8,000 sq ft Havendale Boulevard showroom in Winter Haven. The Forever Home, as the family calls it.
2017
Cabinets and countertops join the floor.
January 1, 2017: Jarrod launches the cabinet and countertop division. Blackburn's becomes a true one-stop shop: flooring, cabinets, countertops. One showroom, one crew, one phone number.
Today
Third generation at the wheel.
Brett (CFO) and Jarrod (COO) run the company alongside Wally. Three generations in, the family is still on Havendale Boulevard, still answering the phone, still installing the work themselves.

Wally Blackburn
Second generation
Wally is the second generation. He purchased the business from his parents Vernon and Louise in 1978 alongside his wife Diane, and has been running Blackburn's ever since. If you've spent more than a few minutes in the showroom, you've probably already met him.

Brett Blackburn
Third generation
Brett joined the family business in 2007, a year after graduating from Trevecca Nazarene University. He runs the books: accounts payable, receivables, the back-office work that keeps everything moving. He stays close to the residential flooring side of the business.

Jarrod Blackburn
Third generation
Jarrod joined Blackburn's after working as a flooring distributor. He launched the company's commercial flooring division in 2012 and the cabinet and countertop division in 2017. Those are two of the three trades the shop is known for today.

Sixty-three years in one county. Three generations of one family.
Vernon and Louise Blackburn opened the store in 1962, on Havendale Boulevard in Winter Haven. We're still here. Same lot. Same family. The third generation runs it now, and the install crews driving to your home have been with us for years, long enough to know the difference between a Lake Wales lakefront bungalow, a Lakeland Craftsman near Lake Hollingsworth, and a Davenport new-build because they've worked all three.

My parents opened these doors on May 1, 1962, on 2nd Street SW. Diane and I bought the business from them in 1978 and have been running it ever since.
