The original rigid-core vinyl

COREtec, the floor that made waterproof normal

COREtec came out of USFloors, a Dalton, Georgia company led by Piet Dossche. In 2012, USFloors debuted COREtec Plus at the Surfaces trade show in Las Vegas. The idea came from watching factories extrude composite material for outdoor decking. Dossche's team asked a simple question: what if you used that same waterproof core as the foundation for a floor? The answer changed the category.

The original COREtec plank layers a wood-plastic composite core between a luxury vinyl wear surface and a cork underlayment. That construction does three things at once: it is 100 percent waterproof, it stays dimensionally stable so gaps and buckling are rare, and the cork backing makes it quieter and warmer underfoot than standard vinyl. The rigid-core category it helped start soon became the fastest-growing part of hard-surface flooring.

Shaw Industries acquired COREtec in 2016. With Shaw's manufacturing scale and distribution behind it, COREtec crossed a billion dollars in annual sales and became one of the largest hard-surface flooring brands in the United States. Today it offers WPC and SPC collections for homes and light commercial use, backed by a lifetime residential waterproof warranty on qualifying products.

At Blackburn's, COREtec is a go-to for Florida homes. The waterproof core handles humidity, spills, and the traffic that comes with an open floor plan. Our installers, trained and certified by Blackburn's, have put down hundreds of COREtec floors across Polk County, and the feedback is the same: homeowners love how solid it feels and how easy it is to keep clean.

COREtec questions

Common questions about COREtec

Who makes COREtec?
COREtec is made by Shaw, which bought its creator, USFloors, in 2016. COREtec launched the first rigid core waterproof vinyl back in 2012, so the line has a long track record. We carry it in our Winter Haven showroom and install it across Polk County.
Is COREtec really 100% waterproof?
Yes. Every COREtec floor is 100% waterproof, top to bottom. The core has no wood fibers that can swell, so spills, pets, and Florida humidity will not ruin it. That is why it is one of the floors we recommend most for kitchens, baths, and laundry rooms.
What makes COREtec different from other luxury vinyl?
COREtec invented the rigid core waterproof category, so it has more than a decade of real use behind it. Most COREtec planks come with cork backing built in, which makes them quieter and warmer underfoot. The line is also GreenGuard Gold certified for low chemical emissions.
How does COREtec hold up with pets and kids?
Very well. The waterproof core means pet accidents wipe up without soaking in, and the wear layer stands up to claws and daily traffic. COREtec is not scratch-proof, so trim nails and add felt pads under furniture. Most families get years of hard use out of it.
What does the COREtec warranty cover?
Most COREtec floors carry a limited lifetime residential warranty. It covers manufacturing defects, wear-through, staining, and even pet stains. It does not cover surface scratches or flood damage. We confirm the exact terms for the collection you choose.
