Where are you putting the new flooring?
How we score it
The recommendation isn't a black-box algorithm. The quiz weighs eight answers: room, what's under the floor, how much water it sees, traffic, pets, kids, what you value most, and budget. It ranks all seven flooring types and shows your top match and the runner-up. Here's the logic, the same rules our designers use in the showroom every day.
Wet rooms and slabs start with waterproof
A wet room, a concrete slab, or a below-grade space steers you toward luxury vinyl plank, COREtec, or tile, and away from solid hardwood and laminate. Water and non-waterproof flooring don't mix in Florida.
Pets and kids push toward durability
Dogs, cats, and young kids weight the score toward waterproof, scratch-resistant floors. LVP and COREtec lead, with tile close behind. Soft carpet and softer solid woods lose ground here.
Comfort = carpet
If softness, warmth, and sound absorption matter most, carpet wins. Best in bedrooms and family rooms.
Style + budget = hardwood
When style is the priority and the budget supports it, hardwood is the choice. Real wood, real grain, real resale value.
Tight budget = laminate
Laminate is the hardwood lookalike at a friendlier price. Best in dry rooms: bedrooms, hallways, living areas.
When in doubt, choose LVP
For most rooms in most homes at most budgets, luxury vinyl plank is the right answer. Durable, attractive, waterproof, affordable. It's the floor we install most often.
