Tarkett's roots run deep. The French Sommer company began making floor and wall coverings in 1880, and a Swedish woodworking firm that incorporated in the 1880s introduced a plastic flooring product it called Tarkett in 1946. That name caught on. The two lines of history crossed in 1997, when the French group acquired a controlling stake in Tarkett, and the combined company became Tarkett S.A.
Today Tarkett is headquartered near Paris and is majority owned by the Deconinck family. With around 12,000 employees, dozens of manufacturing sites, and products sold in more than 100 countries, it is one of the largest flooring companies in the world. Several of its residential lines are made in the United States.
Tarkett Home is the residential face of that global organization. It covers carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, laminate, hybrid resilient, and luxury sheet vinyl. The company backs its floors with strong residential warranties, and its sustainability work runs from recycled content in the core to take-back programs at the end of a floor's life.
