J+J Flooring Group traces back to 1957, when J. Rollins Jolly and Tom Jones opened a small operation in Dalton, Georgia. Dalton was already the carpet capital of the world, and the two founders bet their futures on it. The company started making rugs, pivoted within a decade to fine-gauge commercial carpet, and that commercial focus has never wavered.
The company kept innovating. In the 1980s it became one of the first carpet makers to extrude its own yarn in-house, giving it direct control over fiber quality and color. In 2013 it introduced Kinetex, a textile composite floor that sits between soft carpet and hard surface: it looks and feels like a textile but tolerates moisture and the heavy rolling loads that would ruin standard carpet.
In 2015, J+J earned independent certification as a zero-waste-to-landfill manufacturer, a first among U.S. floor covering companies at the time. The following year it merged with Engineered Floors, the carpet company founded by Robert E. Shaw after he had led Shaw Industries to the Fortune 500. Today J+J operates as part of Engineered Floors, one of the largest carpet companies in North America.
