Marazzi, Italian tile made in Texas
Filippo Marazzi founded his ceramic company in 1935 in Sassuolo, an Italian town that had been a center for ceramic craft for centuries. Marazzi was a grocer who, at 60, decided to try something new. He built his first kiln using two rows of poplar trees for support, and within a year his small shop was making thousands of tile pieces a day.
Over the decades Marazzi became a pioneer in ceramic technology. The company helped advance single-firing, which shortens kiln time and improves consistency, and later developed antimicrobial surfaces. In 1982 Marazzi opened the first Italian-owned ceramic tile plant in the United States, in Sunnyvale, Texas, bringing European production standards straight to the American market.
In 2013, Marazzi joined Mohawk Industries, the world's largest flooring manufacturer. Mohawk's resources expanded the U.S. plant and deepened distribution. The brand is sold in more than 140 countries, and the collections cover wood-look, stone-look, marble-look, concrete-look, and solid-color porcelain in formats from small mosaics to large slabs.
Marazzi suits Blackburn's customers who want a European sensibility in a tile that is actually made in the U.S. The Texas plant and Mohawk's network keep stock reliable, which matters when you are tiling a whole kitchen or a full master suite.
