American hardwood since 1884
The E.L. Bruce Company was founded in 1884, which makes Bruce one of the oldest hardwood flooring brands in America. Based originally in Memphis, Tennessee, it grew into the country's largest oak flooring producer and built its reputation with builders, remodelers, and architects across every region. Bruce floors went into millions of American homes over the following century, and the name became synonymous with solid strip oak.
Ownership has changed hands over the decades. Armstrong acquired Bruce through a larger purchase in 1998, and Bruce operated as part of Armstrong Flooring until that company filed for bankruptcy in 2022. AHF Products bought the hardwood assets out of bankruptcy that July, and Bruce now sits as a core brand inside AHF's portfolio alongside other heritage hardwood names.
AHF Products continues to manufacture Bruce hardwood domestically at its U.S. facilities. Bruce sells solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and a waterproof engineered line built for wetter rooms. Solid hardwood carries a limited lifetime structural warranty, and engineered collections carry finish warranties in the 25 to 30-year range.
At Blackburn's, Bruce is a trusted choice for homeowners who want a proven American hardwood name at a real-world price. Our installers, trained and certified by Blackburn's, have worked with Bruce products for years, and that familiarity shows in a cleaner install and a floor that performs as advertised.
