Walk into any flooring showroom and you'll see a hundred luxury vinyl plank options — different brands, different cores, different wear layers, different price tags. They all look great on the rack. The hard part is figuring out which one actually holds up in a real Florida home, ten years in.
We install LVP every week across Polk County, so we see what lasts and what doesn't. This is our honest 2026 read on the six brands customers ask about most.
What Actually Matters in an LVP Brand
Before we get to the brands, the specs that matter. Don't get distracted by marketing — the floor's real-world performance comes down to four numbers.
Wear Layer Thickness
The wear layer is the clear protective top film. It's measured in mils (thousandths of an inch). It's the single most important spec on the box.
- 6 mil — entry level, light residential use only, short lifespan
- 12 mil — solid residential, what we recommend for most Florida homes
- 20 mil — heavy residential or light commercial, our pick for homes with big dogs or active kids
- 28+ mil — full commercial grade, overkill for most homes but won't hurt
If a brand won't tell you the wear-layer thickness clearly on the spec sheet, walk away. Quality manufacturers print it on every product.
Core Type
Two main options: WPC (wood-plastic composite) and SPC (stone-plastic composite). SPC is denser, more rigid, more dent-resistant, and dimensionally more stable. WPC is slightly softer underfoot and warmer. In Florida, where slabs and humidity create movement challenges, SPC is the safer pick for most installations.
Waterproof Rating
Every quality LVP today is 100% waterproof on the plank surface. The variable is the seams — premium products use tighter click-locks and integrated edge sealing that prevents water from migrating between planks. This matters for kitchen and bathroom installs.
Warranty
Residential warranties typically run 15 to lifetime. Read the fine print — many warranties are pro-rated and require professional installation through an authorized dealer to be valid.
COREtec
What It Is
COREtec essentially invented the rigid-core LVP category in 2012. They're owned by Shaw Industries now, but they operate as a distinct brand with their own product line. We carry the full COREtec catalog and install it more often than any other LVP brand in the Polk County area.
Strengths
- Built-in cork underlayment on most lines — quieter and warmer than bare SPC
- Wear layers ranging from 12 to 30 mil across the catalog
- Excellent waterproof core with strong click-lock seams
- Strong residential lifetime warranty on most product lines
- Wide design library from rustic wood looks to modern wide-plank styles
Where It Wins
COREtec is our default recommendation for whole-home LVP installs in Florida. The cork underlayment is a real comfort and acoustic advantage you don't get with other brands. The Cairo Oak line in particular is one of our most-installed colors — convincing wood look, durable wear layer, holds up beautifully in family homes.
Price Tier
Mid to premium. Most lines install in the $6–$11 per sq ft range depending on wear-layer thickness and plank dimensions.
Shaw
What It Is
Shaw is one of the largest flooring manufacturers in the world, based in Dalton, Georgia. They produce LVP across multiple sub-brands — Floorté, Paragon, and others — and they also own COREtec.
Strengths
- Massive product breadth across price points
- Strong domestic manufacturing footprint
- Reliable warranties backed by a major company
- Innovative ScufResist Platinum finish on premium lines
Where It Wins
Shaw's Floorté Plus and Paragon lines are workhorse residential LVPs at competitive price points. If COREtec is at the top of your budget, Shaw's mid-tier products give you most of the performance for less money.
Price Tier
Broad. Entry-level Shaw LVP installs in the $4–$6 range; premium Paragon lines reach $8–$10.
Mohawk
What It Is
Mohawk Industries is Shaw's biggest competitor — another massive American flooring company. Their LVP lines include SolidTech, RevWood Plus (technically laminate), and Pergo Extreme.
Strengths
- SolidTech features dense SPC cores and integrated antimicrobial protection
- Strong residential warranties on premium lines
- Designs with high pattern variation that hide minor imperfections well
- Reliable nationwide supply and customer service
Where It Wins
Mohawk's Pergo Extreme line is one of the toughest residential LVPs on the market in terms of dent and scratch resistance. If you have large dogs or move heavy furniture often, Pergo Extreme handles it. SolidTech is a solid mid-range pick for whole-home installs.
Price Tier
Mid. Most lines install in the $5–$9 range.
Karndean
What It Is
Karndean is a UK-based brand with a serious design focus. Their LooseLay, Korlok, and Da Vinci collections target the design-conscious end of the market and are known for unusually realistic visuals.
Strengths
- Industry-leading design realism — embossed-in-register textures that match the wood grain visual
- Glue-down and loose-lay options give installers flexibility
- Lifetime residential warranty on most lines
- Available in non-standard plank sizes and herringbone-ready formats
Where It Wins
Karndean is the pick when design matters as much as performance. If you want LVP that genuinely passes for hardwood when guests come over — including in good light up close — Karndean's premium lines are where to look. It's also the best brand for herringbone and chevron LVP patterns.
Price Tier
Premium. Most lines install in the $7–$13 range. Glue-down installation is slightly more labor-intensive than click-lock, which adds to project cost.
Mannington
What It Is
Mannington is a fifth-generation family-owned American flooring company based in New Jersey. Their LVP lines include Adura Max, Adura Rigid, Adura Flex, and the high-end Restoration collection.
Strengths
- Family-owned operation with strong domestic manufacturing
- Adura Max combines a WPC core with a 20-mil wear layer — a strong residential spec
- Lifetime residential warranty on Adura premium lines
- Distinctive plank looks that don't feel like every other LVP brand
Where It Wins
As another long-established family business, we appreciate what Mannington stands for. The Adura Max line is a particularly strong residential choice with the comfort of a WPC core and a premium wear layer.
Price Tier
Mid to premium. Most popular lines install in the $6–$11 range.
Armstrong
What It Is
Armstrong Flooring has gone through corporate changes recently, but the brand still produces LVP through its current ownership. Lines include LUXE Plank and Pryzm.
Strengths
- Long-established American brand recognition
- Pryzm uses rigid-core technology with strong dent resistance
- Available wear layers from 12 to 22 mil across the catalog
Where It Wins
Armstrong is a fine option in the mid-tier residential category. Given the recent corporate changes, we recommend confirming warranty terms carefully before purchase — make sure the dealer can clarify who's backing the warranty if a claim is filed five years from now.
Price Tier
Mid. Most lines install in the $4–$8 range.
What About Florida Humidity?
All six brands above produce LVP that's rated for full-humidity environments. The plank itself doesn't care about 90% relative humidity — it's plastic. What can matter is the click-lock seam tightness and whether the subfloor is prepped correctly.
We always recommend a moisture meter test on slab installations and a quality moisture barrier underlayment where the subfloor is borderline. See our pre-installation tips for the prep checklist we walk every customer through.
How to Pick the Right Brand for Your Home
Best Overall for Florida Homes
COREtec. The cork underlayment, the strong wear layers, and the consistent waterproof performance make it the easiest recommendation for most homeowners.
Best Value
Shaw Floorté or Mohawk SolidTech. Both give you 12-mil-plus wear layers from major manufacturers in the $5–$7 installed range.
Best Design
Karndean. If you want LVP that genuinely passes for real wood, this is the brand to look at.
Toughest for Pets and Kids
Mohawk Pergo Extreme or any COREtec line with a 20-mil wear layer. These handle big dogs, dropped toys, and dragged furniture better than anything else in the price range.
Best Family-Owned Brand
Mannington Adura. A fifth-generation family company making top-tier LVP — that resonates with us.
The Bottom Line
There's no single "best" LVP brand. The right choice depends on your budget, your traffic level, your design priorities, and how long you plan to stay in the home. The six brands above all make LVP we'd be comfortable installing in our own homes.
