We carry Anderson Tuftex for the homes where the floor needs to last decades and read as heirloom from the day it's installed.

Anderson since 1946 · Tuftex since 1969

Anderson Tuftex — two heritage brands, one premium line.

Anderson Tuftex is the premium tier within Shaw's residential portfolio — formed when two heritage brands merged into a single label on January 1, 2018. The combined line draws on more than 70 years of hardwood craftsmanship and 50 years of carpet manufacturing.

Anderson Hardwood Floors started in 1946, founded by L.W. "Andy" Anderson as Standard Plywoods, Inc. During WWII, Anderson invented the 5-ply engineered hardwood technique for US Navy fast-attack vessel hulls — a construction method that became an industry standard for engineered hardwood. In 1958, the company acquired the Modernwoods plant in Clinton, South Carolina, which is still part of the operation.

Tuftex Carpets was founded in 1969 in California by Leo Cook, and became the leading carpet manufacturer in the western United States. Shaw acquired Tuftex in 1998 through its purchase of Queen Carpet, and acquired Anderson Hardwood in 2007. Both brands operated separately within Shaw for years before the 2018 merger.

Today Anderson Tuftex is headquartered in Dalton, Georgia, alongside its parent company Shaw Industries — a Berkshire Hathaway company. The line includes hardwood flooring, carpet (including the wool Heirloom collection), rugs, and stair products. Notable hardwood styles include Imperial Pecan, Provincial Herringbone, European Ash, Chateau Oak, and Coast to Coast.

The brand is Cradle to Cradle Certified, with carpet adding CRI Green Label Plus and hardwood adding GREENGUARD Gold — meaningful certifications for indoor air quality. Anderson Tuftex also plants a tree with every hardwood order through the Arbor Day Foundation; about 40,000 trees have gone in the ground since the program launched in summer 2023.

Day-to-day care

Living with it.

Hardwood — sweep or dry-mop a few times a week, wipe spills fast, felt pads under furniture, and follow the manufacturer's care sheet for the specific finish. Most Anderson Tuftex hardwood is engineered, so avoid steam mops and excess water. Carpet — vacuum weekly, blot rather than rub on spills, and schedule a professional clean every twelve to eighteen months. The wool Heirloom collection has its own care notes that ship with the order — we send you home with the right sheet for the product you pick.

Install + warranty

Putting it down.

Anderson Tuftex hardwood is mostly engineered, which is the right call over Polk County's concrete slabs — glue-down or floating install over a flat, dry subfloor. We acclimate the planks inside your home for several days before install. Carpet jobs run one to two days; hardwood is typically two to four days depending on square footage. The product is backed by a 25-year warranty, and our in-house installation activates the full warranty terms. We handle subfloor prep, transitions, baseboard work, and old-floor removal as part of the job.

Common questions

  • What's the story behind Anderson Tuftex?

Two heritage brands merged. Anderson Hardwood Floors was founded in 1946 by L.W. "Andy" Anderson and built its reputation on engineered hardwood — Anderson actually invented the 5-ply engineered technique during WWII for US Navy hulls. Tuftex Carpets was founded in 1969 in California by Leo Cook and became a leading carpet manufacturer in the western US. Shaw acquired both and merged them in 2018.

  • How does Anderson Tuftex compare to standard Shaw Floors?

Anderson Tuftex is Shaw's premium tier. Standard Shaw covers the breadth of price points and styles. Anderson Tuftex focuses on the higher end — better materials, finer finishes, heirloom-quality construction. If you want the top of the Shaw portfolio for hardwood or carpet, this is it.

  • What's the warranty?

Most Anderson Tuftex products carry a 25-year warranty on the product itself when professionally installed. We handle the paperwork and any claims on your behalf — you don't have to call the factory yourself.

  • Is the hardwood really better than other engineered hardwood?

Anderson Tuftex hardwood draws on the original Anderson Hardwood reputation for engineered construction, with refined finishes and wider plank options than most mid-tier lines. The styles read as heirloom — wider boards, deeper character, finer sawn faces. Worth seeing the samples in person.
